Artist Feature 002: Mozambo

This week we are proud to present yet another round of brilliant French producers in the form of the dynamic trio ‘Mozambo’ from Marseille. With their low-key profile in the tropical house scene gradually increasing in the past year, Mozambo are destined for great things having gained the support of influential producers worldwide. Under the pretence of ‘Take our hands and have a walk with us!’, Mozambo have been consistent with every free release, building up a solid fanbase on social media – having over 8000 follows on soundcloud and growing! Not to mention their popular tracks such as their remix of Disclosure’s ‘Latch’ earning them well above 500k plays.

Most importantly they have managed to secure a number of live shows, it is clear that their musical talent and dedication has and will lead them to great things this coming year!

Without further ado here is the interview with ‘Mozambo’ themselves:

As we understand there are 3 of you producing for ‘Mozambo’. How did you guys meet?
How old are you all & How did you get into producing music?

Gui: Hi my name is Guillaume, I’m 18, my surname is « plume » (feather) because I’m the « scatterbrains » of the band!

Clem: But you are also a genius bro! My name is Clement, I’m 27, and we met each other randomly, ever since then our music family was born – it’s been 8 months now.

Alex: Hello my name is Connor .. just kidding, it’s Alexis. I’m 18 too and yeah Guillaume is my best friend and Clement is like our big bro!

We love your description on soundcloud ‘No genre, only music’, a theme that echoes our views here at thepurplebay – so what would you say are your musical influences, whether it be artists from the past, present, upcomming or special instruments / samples?

Clem: We have a lots of past references : Beatles, Stones, Supertramp, some blues and funk too.

Alex: We play guitar, I’m huge fan of Hendrix, and play his tracks sometimes in acoustic sessions. Also we play the piano too.

If you could compare yourselves to an already established artist, who would that be and why?

Clem: Miley Cirus! just kidding.

Gui: Probably Gamper & Dadoni! They are much better than us of course – amazing artists!

Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process / software? Seeing as there are 3 of you, do each have an equal amount of input or are you all talented in different ways?

Alex: I play guitar and Gui plays piano.

Clem: I manage the vocal part. We listen a lots of blues or rock n roll, and we just start to work on a melody and add our proper atmosphere and influence.

Gui: We use FL Studio, we work all together on it and each have creative input.

What would you say is your signature sound or style?

All: To create a happy feeling for our fans – with lots of dynamic rhythm! It’s  great music for travelling (we hope…).

What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Clem: I think the music today must be free, with it being hard today for new artists to earn money immediatley. So we always give music for free except those tracks which will be sold on labels.

Alex: Music has to be shared!

What do you think your listeners will get out of your music?

Clem: Depends… but I think for most of our tunes there is positive emotion, and we want to make people dance. I remember a day, a few weeks ago when a girl told me that “…your lyrics in ‘To Describe You’ penetrated me”, I was so proud (stop laughing) thats true and it’s our fans great support that keeps us motivated!

Alex: Depends I think, people feel the vibe in their own way.

What are your future plans / goals / aspirations?

All: Live! We want to travel anywhere to play our music and have lots of fun!

Are they any other artists that are starting to recognise / support you guys who you are proud of?

Alex: Hell yeah! Our mates from Klingande, Thomas Jack, Gamper & Dadoni, De Hofnar, BAKERMAT, Flic Flac, Airdice, our bro Kungs & Pakem too.

Clem: Yeah and we really appreciate the fact that people who are very talented ask us to give some feedback on their productions!

As we understand you have had a busy agenda the past year, what was your favourite moment? Any funny stories? Where do you hope to play in the future?

Gui: The best moment was probably at the Wanderlust with Androma & Klingande in July.

Alex: One day we forgot the CD’s – stupid!

Clem: We want to play everywhere. We love to meet new people and discover new places – bring it on!

What are you guys currently working on, can you give us any hints?

Clem: We frequently work with Pakem & Kungs and we found our new singer.

What’s your favourite track to listen to / include in your mixes at the moment by another artist?

Clem: Fabich & Ferdinand Weber – What

Alex: Justice – Helix

Gui: Kindness – Gee Up (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)

Cheeky question, but we have to know, who gets the most girls?

Alex & Clem: Guillaume is an amazing French kisser ladies!

Gui: But I never pass the second base…

Any final shoutouts / words for your fans?

All: We love you all, and we hope we’ll deserve your listening & support as long as we can!

Thanks guys, It has been amazing!
